BRI is a global pathway to prosperity as China is increasingly willing to cooperate with countries and achieve modernization.
China is prepared to collaborate with all nations to transform the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) into a global source of prosperity and a platform for helping countries achieve modernization, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, stated on Friday.
Lin made these remarks in response to U.S. economist Jeffrey Sachs, who expressed strong support for the BRI and praised China’s global infrastructure efforts.
Highlighting the progress of the BRI, Lin noted that over the past year, China has signed multiple cooperation agreements, established the Secretariat for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, and launched over 30 multilateral platforms covering energy, taxation, and disaster relief.
The initiative has yielded substantial outcomes, fostering strong ties with partner nations while promoting their socioeconomic development.
Lin detailed BRI successes, including building a cross-sea bridge in the Maldives, an electrified railway in Africa, and revitalizing Greece’s Piraeus Port. The Chancay Port in Peru now stands as South America’s first smart and green port, while projects like the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway and China-Laos Railway have revolutionized connectivity. Livelihood programs, such as the Luban Workshop, Juncao technology projects, and renewable energy installations, have significantly enhanced local living standards.
Lin emphasized that the BRI aims to enhance global connectivity and bring development opportunities to partner nations, especially in the Global South.
China remains committed to the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, seeking to make the BRI a source of global happiness and a pathway to modernization for all, Lin concluded.
