Brazil, China vow closer ties, global cooperation as Brazilian President met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
During a meeting in Brazil on Wednesday, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and expressed Brazil’s interest in enhancing bilateral relations and deepening cooperation.
Lula emphasized the strong mutual trust and expanding collaboration between Brazil and China, describing their enduring friendship as a strategic and exemplary model for South-South cooperation.
He expressed his desire to maintain frequent high-level engagements with China and to broaden mutually advantageous partnerships, particularly in sectors like trade, finance, and energy.
The Brazilian president praised China’s firm stance in response to “reciprocal tariffs,” noting that China’s principled actions have earned global support, in contrast to the reckless and unilateral moves of certain countries, which he said should be collectively opposed.
Lula also affirmed Brazil’s readiness to collaborate with China in promoting free trade, upholding international norms, and countering efforts by any power to undermine global justice.
Wang Yi, a member of the Communist Party of China’s Political Bureau, responded by reaffirming China’s commitment to working with Brazil to implement the key agreements made by their presidents and to advance the vision of a shared future between the two nations.
He added that China intends to bolster its cooperation within BRICS and with Global South nations, remain committed to multilateralism, and continue defending the international rule-based order.
