The initiative encourages journalists to serve as “four envoys,” advocating for the maintenance of professional ethics, the promotion of social progress, the facilitation of dialogue among civilizations, and the support of fairness and justice in their reporting. They aim to build bridges for international communication through authentic and compelling storytelling.
The announcement of this initiative is highlighted as a significant milestone in the development of the Belt and Road Journalists Network, according to the organizing committee.
Belt and Road Journalists Network
The Belt and Road Journalists Network, a global platform for journalists’ exchange and cooperation, was initiated by the All-China Journalists Association in partnership with journalist organizations from countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. The network has now grown to include 1.65 million journalists worldwide, making it one of the largest global journalist organizations.
The initiative’s launch was also witnessed by the first group of 16 consulting experts from the International Home of Journalists, who were presented with letters of appointment by the Secretariat of the Belt and Road Journalists Network.
Moreover, during the 2023 Belt and Road Journalists Forum, both Chinese and international journalists’ organizations issued a declaration outlining a development plan for the next decade, focusing on advancing the construction of the International Home of Journalists.
As a part of this effort, the hiring of consulting experts to form an “advisory group” is seen as a key step in supporting the development of the International Home of Journalists.
Lastly, at the conclusion of the network’s chairpersons’ meeting on Friday, 22 journalists’ organizations that actively applied for the “International Journalists’ Home” certificate were approved.
