The Belt and Road Economic and Trade Center (BRETC), a flagship initiative launched by IBI International Group, was officially opened on April 15 in Changshu, Suzhou. This center represents a major step toward strengthening trade and economic ties among nations participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Designed as a comprehensive platform, BRETC will promote trade, investment, and cultural interaction, fostering closer ties between China and its BRI partners. Once fully operational, the center will provide wide-ranging services including bulk trade facilitation, supply chain solutions, engineering and construction services, TOT models, production line setup, and financing for both B2B and B2G partnerships.
The center’s goals include promoting joint ventures, securing project financing, and easing partner nations’ access to Chinese markets. BRETC includes dedicated zones and liaison offices for various partner countries such as Pakistan, Jordan, and Nigeria.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, praised BRETC as a symbol of practical collaboration and connectivity. He highlighted the center’s integrated services—such as procurement support, legal assistance, and business matchmaking—as vital for enabling Pakistan’s private sector to thrive in global markets.
IBI Group Chairman Ibrahim Munir noted that BRETC offers more than standard trade services—it is a full-spectrum platform for international cooperation. He emphasized its role in expanding partnerships in diverse sectors like textiles, information technology, mining, agriculture, and clean energy. The launch of the center reflects China’s strong dedication to BRI goals, with trade between China and partner countries reaching 22.1 trillion yuan in 2024.
