Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong delivered a speech at the Silk Road Culture Center in Islamabad on Wednesday to commemorate the 74th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan.
He conveyed appreciation to everyone who has contributed to strengthening the enduring friendship between the two nations. Recalling the formal establishment of diplomatic relations on May 21, 1951, he described it as the beginning of a new chapter in the centuries-old interactions between the Chinese and Pakistani peoples.
The ambassador highlighted that over the last seventy years, the China-Pakistan relationship has steadily grown, guided by the leadership of successive generations and the strong support of both populations.
Underscoring the deep trust between the two countries, Jiang referred to recent high-level engagements, including mutual visits by both prime ministers and President Zardari’s successful trip to China.
He stated that the vital understandings reached between President Xi Jinping and Pakistani leadership have given fresh momentum to their all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.
Jiang reiterated China’s firm backing for Pakistan’s sovereignty, national unity, and development goals, as well as its commitment to supporting Pakistan’s anti-terrorism efforts. He also commended Pakistan’s steadfast observance of the one-China principle and consistent support for China’s core interests.
He recalled moments of mutual aid and solidarity during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters, describing the China-Pakistan friendship as “iron-clad” and resilient in the face of global uncertainties.
Jiang pointed to the Silk Road Culture Center itself as a powerful symbol of the “Silk Road Spirit,” which embodies peace, collaboration, openness, inclusivity, mutual respect, and shared benefits.
He emphasized the importance of initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as real-world applications of this spirit. Jiang highlighted milestones like China being Pakistan’s top trading partner for a decade, the opening of Gwadar New International Airport, and year-round access through the Khunjerab Pass.
Looking to the future, the ambassador outlined priorities for advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation in alignment with Pakistan’s 5Es framework. These include boosting collaboration in agriculture, industry, mining, and renewable energy, as well as promoting B2B and cross-border e-commerce, delivering public welfare projects, and ensuring tangible benefits for both nations.
He also stressed the value of cultural exchange, linking the event’s theme “Tea for Harmony” to broader diplomatic ideals. He described tea as a symbol of openness, humility, equality, and compassion, aligning with China’s pursuit of peace and harmony amid global uncertainties.
On global challenges, Jiang addressed the rapid changes and conflicts facing the world today, including the rise of unilateralism, protectionism, and hegemonic practices.
He highlighted the cooperation between China and Pakistan in multilateral platforms like the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and praised Pakistan’s active support for China’s global initiatives such as the GDI, GSI, and GCI. He reaffirmed both countries’ shared commitment to promoting civilizational exchange, a multipolar global order, and inclusive globalization.
The ambassador called for closer unity between the two countries to build an even stronger China-Pakistan Community of Shared Future in the new era. He concluded by wishing everlasting friendship between the two nations and extended warm wishes for prosperity, health, and happiness to all attendees.
The event was graced by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, alongside notable dignitaries, diplomats, and members of the public.
