Planning Minister Professor Ahsan Iqbal chaired a special meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Chinese Investment Projects on Thursday to evaluate the progress of multiple initiatives under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Senior officials from the relevant ministries participated in the meeting, which concentrated on implementing decisions from the previous session and addressing challenges being faced by Chinese investors.
Iqbal stressed that resolving the difficulties encountered by Chinese investors remains a top priority for the government. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing a secure and investment-friendly environment essential for advancing bilateral cooperation, especially in emerging sectors under CPEC Phase II.
The minister noted that CPEC holds the potential to enhance regional connectivity and economic integration, particularly through the development of Gwadar Port into a key hub for regional trade.
He also emphasized safeguarding the interests and livelihoods of local fishermen in Gwadar and called for expediting water and electricity projects in the region to improve infrastructure.
The committee instructed that any outstanding issues in Chinese-funded projects be resolved without delay. Iqbal reiterated the government’s focus on boosting foreign investment and creating job opportunities as a central component of its development agenda.
He concluded by affirming that the government is working diligently to ensure the timely completion of CPEC projects, with a strong emphasis on delivering tangible benefits to the local communities.
