Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the much-anticipated Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System Karachi on December 10, 2021. It will be Karachi’s first modern transport system. Like the BRT Peshawar, “Made in China” buses will run on the Green Line BRT Karachi.
“The PM @ImranKhanPTI will inshallah inaugurate Karachi’s first modern transport system, Green Line BRT, on the 10th of December,” Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar said in a tweet on Sunday.
Last week, Asad Umar had stated that the inauguration of the Greenline BRT would be followed by a two-week run as the bus line began its commercial operation on December 25.
In September, the first batch of 40 green line buses from China arrived in Karachi. A total of 80 buses would run on the dedicated 22 km corridor of the BRT green line while another 40 buses are expected to arrive from China.
The Government of Pakistan initiated the Rs 27 billion greenline BRT project in 2016 to provide reliable, safe, affordable, high quality and fast bus service and to improve the quality of life of commuters in Karachi. Besides improving the public transport system in Karachi, the project will provide infrastructure that allows buses to ply in an efficient manner with exclusive right-of-way for a significant portion of their route length and to reduce travel time.
The route for Green Line 22-km dedicated corridor starts from Municipal Park and passes through Gurumandir, Business Recorder Road, Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road, Shahrah-e-Shershah Suri and Shahrah-e-Usman and reaches Numaish phase 1.
