A five-member delegation of Pakistani National Assembly’s Parliamentary Committee on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) visited the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) depot at Dera Gujran here on Friday afternoon.
The delegation comprised Chairman Sher Arbab Ali and Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) Zahid Akram Durrani, Noor Alam Khan and others.
The delegation inspected different sections of OLMT depot including Control Centre, Maintenance Shed, Washing and Parking area and others, said an official statement.
The delegates expressed satisfaction over the state-of-the-art mass transit project and appreciated the staff for maintaining extraordinary arrangements.
Later, the delegates also took a ride on the Orange Line Metro Train and reviewed the facilities provided to the commuters at the train and stations. They took ride from Dera Gujran train Station and traveled to Lakshmi Chowk.
Earlier, Chairman of National Assembly Parliamentary Committee for CPEC Sher Ali Arbab said that CPEC project had entered into its third phase.
Speaking at a seminar Sher Ali Arbab called for increasing the pace of work on CPEC as its completion on time is in the interest of both nations.
The seminar was organized with the collaboration of the National Assembly Secretariat, Punjab Board of Investment, Planning and Development Board and Friedrish Ebert Stiftung Pakistan and attended by Acting Council General China, provincial ministers, members of parliament and investors from both countries.
He also informed that the federal government had constituted a parliamentary committee on CPEC in order to formulate meaningful proposals to face the challenges of CPEC.
Chairman Sher Ali Arbab pledged to implement all the positive proposals regarding CPEC discussed in the seminar. He called for organising such seminars and conferences in other provinces. He said a national conference on CPEC would be held in Islamabad.
Sher Ali Arbab mentioned that Punjab was the largest province of Pakistan having great investment opportunities. Cooperation between Punjab and the federal government would be enhanced to explore more investment as CPEC was a game-changer for Pakistan.
