Pakistan and the European Union have agreed to enhance cooperation on border security and migration management. Both sides will work jointly on the EU’s Eastern Corridor Initiative to address illegal migration.

The decision came during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner in Islamabad.

Pakistan and EU to Expand Migration Cooperation

Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in border management, institutional coordination and legal migration. They also discussed measures to improve the capacity of the Pakistan Coast Guards.

The meeting focused on creating more opportunities for skilled Pakistani workers to migrate legally to European countries.

Brunner described illegal migration as a serious global challenge. He assured Pakistan of the European Union’s support in addressing the issue.

EU Praises Pakistan’s Efforts to Curb Illegal Migration

Brunner praised Pakistan’s measures to reduce illegal migration to Europe. He said these efforts had contributed to a 64% decline in illegal migration.

He also commended the Federal Investigation Agency for its professional work despite limited resources.

Pakistan Targets Complete Elimination of Illegal Migration

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan’s next goal was to eliminate illegal migration completely following the reported 64% reduction.

The latest discussions reflect a shared focus on stronger border controls and better migration management. Both sides also aim to expand legal pathways for skilled workers while addressing irregular migration.
