Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a symbol of the enduring partnership between Pakistan and China.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
He said CPEC Phase II was progressing rapidly and could provide further support for Pakistan’s economic development.
CPEC Phase II Focuses on New Sectors
According to the prime minister, CPEC has already transformed Pakistan’s infrastructure landscape. The next phase will expand cooperation beyond major infrastructure projects.
The new focus includes:
- Industrialization
- Agriculture
- Information technology
- Science and technology
- Energy cooperation
- Gwadar development
Moreover, Shehbaz Sharif said CPEC Phase II could support industrial growth and create employment opportunities.
Pakistan Reaffirms China Partnership
The prime minister described China as Pakistan’s “iron brother” and praised President Xi Jinping’s leadership.
He also congratulated the Chinese government and people on the country’s national day. Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan and China share a relationship based on mutual trust, cooperation and shared development.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to working with Beijing on their shared development goals.
Chinese Ambassador Highlights Bilateral Ties
Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong also addressed the ceremony. He noted that Pakistan and China are marking the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year.
The ambassador described the two countries as “all-weather strategic cooperative partners.” He also said both sides continue to support each other on issues of core national interest.
In addition, Jiang welcomed Pakistan’s improving economic conditions and recognized its role in supporting regional peace and stability.
Trade and Investment Remain Key Areas
Jiang said Pakistan-China cooperation would continue to expand in trade, investment, technology and people-to-people exchanges.
Meanwhile, senior Pakistani officials, diplomats and federal ministers attended the ceremony. These included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
The event concluded with renewed commitments to expand bilateral cooperation and strengthen Pakistan-China relations.
