Pakistan and China have launched a joint laboratory for livestock disease prevention and control in Luoyang, Henan Province. The facility will support cooperation in animal vaccines, disease control, and related technologies.
The launch took place at Luoyang Modern Biology Group. Senator Saleem Mandviwalla led the Pakistani delegation at the event.
Focus on Animal Disease Prevention
The new laboratory will provide a platform for joint research and technology development. It will also support the exchange of technical expertise between the two countries.
In addition, the facility will facilitate personnel exchanges and specialized training. Both sides also plan to commercialize research results from the joint work.
Experts Join Joint Laboratory
Professor Bai Zhonghu has been appointed director of the joint laboratory. Academician Zhang Gaiping of the Chinese Academy of Engineering also attended the launch.
Dr. Nazir Hussain Kalhoro, Director General of the Sindh Institute of Animal Health, joined the Pakistani delegation.
Cooperation on Animal Vaccines
The laboratory builds on earlier cooperation between the Sindh Livestock and Fisheries Department and Luoyang Modern Biology Group.
In May, the two sides signed a joint venture agreement covering the distribution and supply of animal vaccines in Pakistan. The agreement includes foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccines.
Moreover, the partnership covers technology exchange and future cooperation on animal identification and traceability systems.
Progress on FMD Vaccine Development
Technical work is also underway on the Sindh-08 strain of foot-and-mouth disease. Pakistan’s Press Information Department said vaccine trials in China and Pakistan are expected to conclude by November.
The development could support stronger disease monitoring and vaccine research in Pakistan’s livestock sector.
Strengthening Pakistan-China Agricultural Cooperation
The joint laboratory adds another area to growing Pakistan-China cooperation in agriculture and biotechnology. It brings together research, technology transfer, training, and commercial opportunities.
As a result, the partnership could help strengthen livestock disease prevention and improve access to animal health technologies in Pakistan.
