Pakistan has condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and called for urgent de-escalation in Yemen.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, made the remarks during an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting on Yemen.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and prosperity of Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan Backs Saudi Arabia’s Right to Defence
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar said Pakistan supports Saudi Arabia’s right to take necessary measures to defend its territory.
He said such measures are consistent with the UN Charter and international law. Moreover, he stressed the need to protect Saudi citizens and national assets from security threats.
Call for De-escalation in Yemen
Pakistan also called for urgent steps to reduce tensions in Yemen.
In addition, Islamabad backed dialogue and a comprehensive political settlement. According to the ambassador, these efforts can help establish lasting peace and stability in Yemen and the wider region.
Support for UN-Led Political Process
Pakistan said it will continue supporting sincere diplomatic efforts toward a peaceful settlement.
Furthermore, Islamabad emphasized dialogue and political engagement as key elements in addressing the Yemen conflict.
The statement comes as the UN Security Council considers the security situation in Yemen and its wider regional implications.
