Pakistan assembled 13.1 million mobile devices from January to June 2026, according to data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

Chinese brands occupied several leading positions as local manufacturers continued to expand smartphone and 5G production.

Meanwhile, Pakistan imported only 2.55 million mobile phones during the same period. The figures highlight the growing role of local assembly in meeting domestic demand.

Smartphones Gain Ground

The six-month production included 7.32 million 2G phones and 5.78 million smartphones.

As a result, smartphones now account for a significant share of Pakistan’s local mobile production.

The market is also moving toward newer technologies. In May alone, manufacturers assembled 101,005 5G-enabled handsets in Pakistan.

This growth suggests that local producers are gradually adding next-generation devices to their production lines.

VGO TEL Leads Local Assembly

VGO TEL recorded the highest local production during the first half of 2026. The company assembled 1.86 million devices between January and June.

Infinix followed with 1.34 million units. Itel ranked third with 0.89 million devices.

Other leading brands included:

  • TECNO: 0.83 million
  • Vivo: 0.78 million
  • Samsung: 0.77 million
  • Nokia: 0.70 million
  • ONKA: 0.70 million
  • X Mobile: 0.52 million
  • Oppo: 0.48 million
  • QMobile: 0.48 million

Chinese Brands Strengthen Their Position

Chinese mobile brands remain central to Pakistan’s expanding local smartphone industry.

In particular, brands such as Infinix, Itel, TECNO, Vivo, and Oppo have secured strong positions in local assembly.

Their presence is especially significant in Pakistan’s affordable and mid-range smartphone segments.

Moreover, local assembly allows manufacturers to serve domestic consumers while reducing dependence on imported finished handsets.

5G Production Enters New Phase

The assembly of more than 101,000 5G devices in May marks an important development for Pakistan’s mobile industry.

Although 2G phones still represented the larger share of production, the growing number of smartphones shows a gradual shift in consumer technology.

Furthermore, the introduction of locally assembled 5G devices could encourage manufacturers to expand advanced mobile production in the coming months.

Local Assembly Supports Mobile Industry

Pakistan’s first-half production figures show a changing mobile market.

While basic 2G devices continue to account for millions of units, smartphone production is becoming increasingly important.

At the same time, Chinese brands continue to play a major role in this transition. Their strong presence could help expand Pakistan’s smartphone assembly capacity and introduce more advanced devices to the domestic market.

Overall, the latest PTA figures point to a growing local mobile manufacturing sector, with Chinese companies playing a significant role in its shift toward smartphones and 5G technology.
