FAO and Chinese embassy

A delegation from Pakistan was able to attend a 14-day seminar on marine sustainable development in Xiamen, China, as part of the China Aid Program. This was made possible with the collaboration of of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Pakistan and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan.

The conference is intended to improve technical competence in sustainable marine resource management and ocean governance, as well as to strengthen international cooperation, according to a statement released by FAO on May 28. The event, which was organised by the Fujian Institute of Oceanography, has drawn 33 people from seven different nations and is a reflection of China’s increasing cooperation with its partner nations on the development of the blue economy and the sustainable use of marine resources.

Attendees of the event

According to the release, “the seminar brings together participants to strengthen cooperation and technical capacity on sustainable marine resource management and ocean governance.”

Tariq Qamar Baloch, Secretary of Balochistan’s Department of Fisheries and Coastal Development; Dr. Kanwar Muhammad Javed Iqbal, Senior Policy Specialist and FAO Focal Person for Blue Economy; and researchers Komal Shabbir and Wajih ur Rehman from the National Institute of Maritime Affairs comprise the Pakistani delegation.

Given the province’s extensive coastline and the increasing strategic and economic significance of coastal areas, including Gwadar, the involvement of Balochistan’s Fisheries and Coastal Development Department is especially noteworthy. thus, The conference is anticipated to provide Pakistani officials and scholars with foreign experience and technical insights in sustainable coastal management, marine resource governance, and blue economy development.
