The Pakistan-China Diamer Basha Dam Project has announced 18 driver vacancies for residents of District Diamer as construction work on the mega dam continues. The project, managed by WAPDA with the main construction contract awarded to the Power China–FWO joint venture, aims to provide local employment opportunities.
Applicants with valid driving licences and relevant experience can apply through Central Testing Services by March 30. The recruitment drive forms part of the project’s efforts to support communities living near the construction site.
Diamer Basha Dam is being built on the Indus River, about 40 kilometres downstream of Chilas. Once completed in 2030, the project will have a gross water storage capacity of 8.1 million acre-feet, irrigate 1.23 million acres of land, and generate 4,500 megawatts of electricity, producing about 18 billion units annually.
Officials said the project reflects the continued Pakistan-China partnership in hydropower development and highlights the socio-economic benefits of local job creation alongside major infrastructure growth.
