The Government of Sindh has announced a major expansion of environmentally friendly public transport in Karachi, with China-made electric buses playing a central role in the province’s strategy to modernize urban mobility and reduce pollution.
Senior provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said additional Chinese-manufactured electric buses will be added to Karachi’s fleet, while more double-decker buses will also be introduced to meet increasing commuter demand. New EV bus routes, including one linking Gulshan-e-Maymar and Tower, are expected to start operations before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Officials say the initiative reflects growing cooperation between Pakistan and China in adopting clean transport technologies. Authorities also plan to expand the People’s Bus Service to cities such as Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Khairpur after Eid to improve access to affordable and sustainable public transport.
