China has announced the appointment of a permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (OIC-COMSTECH). The move aims to strengthen coordination and expand joint initiatives in science, technology, and innovation among OIC member states.
The decision was discussed during a meeting in Islamabad between Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, COMSTECH coordinator general, and Xu Hangtian, minister-counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan. Both sides reviewed ongoing projects, including joint training programs and biomedical AI courses, and explored new initiatives with Chinese universities and research institutes.
Plans were also discussed for establishing a COMSTECH–Zhejiang Joint Laboratory, a possible OIC-COMSTECH office in Beijing, and further collaborative research in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and traditional medicine. Officials highlighted that these efforts will enhance human resource capacity and strengthen scientific collaboration across OIC nations.
