The government has unveiled an ambitious plan to generate $2.5 billion in mobile and IT equipment exports by transitioning from assembling imported parts to producing devices locally. The strategy aims to build a fully developed manufacturing ecosystem by 2033.
Officials expect more than 21 million mobile phones to be exported during the seven-year period, supported by the creation of around 75,000 skilled jobs. Export volumes are projected to rise sharply after 2027 as production capacity expands and global marketing efforts increase.
The policy also emphasizes local production of components, research and development, and recycling of electronic waste. By reducing dependence on imported parts and strengthening domestic supply chains, authorities hope to boost foreign exchange earnings and attract international technology companies to invest in Pakistan.
