A Chinese industrial group will submit a comprehensive feasibility study for Pakistan’s proposed Sea-to-Steel Green Maritime Industrial Corridor at Port Qasim, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said. The initiative is aimed at modernizing industrial operations, boosting domestic steel production, and developing an integrated maritime hub.
The plan, formally reviewed in a high-level meeting, includes upgrading the Iron Ore and Coal Berth, enhancing ship recycling and repair facilities, and establishing an integrated steel mill. Chinese representatives from Shandong Xinxu Group attended the meeting, highlighting strong interest in advancing Pakistan’s maritime industrial potential.
Minister Chaudhry emphasized that the corridor would create significant employment, reduce steel imports, and strengthen local industrial capacity. Sustainable development, value addition, and alignment with national priorities are central to the project. Once approved, the Sea-to-Steel Corridor is expected to cement Port Qasim as a major regional industrial and maritime hub, showcasing the deepening China-Pakistan economic partnership.
