The Asian Development Bank has approved an additional $48 million for Balochistan’s water development project to improve irrigation efficiency, strengthen water security, and support sustainable agriculture across the province.
The funding will help complete the Churi Infiltration Gallery, expand the Siri Toi Dam command area, and implement critical watershed management measures. A new piped water distribution system will reduce losses common in open-channel irrigation and improve service delivery for over 16,500 hectares of farmland.
Once finished, the Siri Toi Dam will store 36 million cubic meters of water, providing reliable supply for domestic use and agriculture, including rain-fed farming areas. The project also incorporates afforestation, soil conservation, and check dams to enhance flood control and environmental protection.
The initiative aims to create economic opportunities, particularly for women in agriculture, while improving resilience against drought and climate-related challenges, ensuring long-term sustainable water management in the province.
