At least two terrorists were killed during a coordinated attack on Wana Cadet College in South Waziristan, as security forces quickly launched a clearance operation to secure the educational institution, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The attackers first attempted to breach the college perimeter, but troops responded with precision, stopping the intrusion. They then used an explosives-laden vehicle to damage the main gate and an adjacent building before entering the campus, where they were cornered in the administrative block. Security forces eliminated two terrorists linked to the banned TTP faction, Fitna al Khwarij, who were reportedly receiving instructions from handlers in Afghanistan.
The ISPR condemned the attackers, emphasizing that this attempt mirrors previous attacks aimed at instilling fear among students in tribal areas seeking quality education. Pakistan reserves the right to respond to terrorists and their leadership present in Afghanistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the bravery of the security forces for thwarting the attack and preventing casualties. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also paid tribute to the professionalism of the troops, noting that their decisive action prevented a major tragedy. Both leaders reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism and safeguarding educational institutions.
This attack comes amid rising terror activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan following the TTP’s cessation of its ceasefire in November 2022. Security forces continue operations across the region, successfully neutralizing threats and maintaining public safety.
