Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio on October 27, 2025, discussing ways to maintain stability and cooperation in bilateral relations.
During the call, Wang Yi said that the relationship between China and the United States has a profound impact on the world, emphasising that a sound, stable, and sustainable partnership aligns with the long-term interests of both nations and the broader expectations of the international community.
Wang Yi noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald J. Trump are both global leaders whose mutual respect and longstanding communication have become a valuable strategic asset in China-U.S. relations.
He highlighted that while the two countries had recently faced renewed friction in economic and trade matters, constructive dialogue during talks in Kuala Lumpur helped both sides clarify positions, strengthen understanding, and reach a framework consensus to manage pressing issues on equal footing.
According to Wang, this outcome once again demonstrates that progress in the bilateral relationship is achievable when both countries implement the important understandings reached by their leaders. He urged both sides to uphold principles of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, resolve differences through dialogue, and avoid exerting pressure or confrontation.
Wang Yi expressed hope that China and the United States would continue to move in the same direction to create favourable conditions for high-level engagement and to further advance bilateral relations based on mutual trust and cooperation.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the U.S.-China relationship as the most significant bilateral relationship in the world, emphasising that it carries weight far beyond the two nations themselves. He said the United States looks forward to maintaining constructive communication with China and aims to send a positive signal to the international community through continued high-level exchanges.
The conversation between Wang Yi and Marco Rubio comes at a time when both nations seek to manage differences while preserving global stability through dialogue and cooperation.
