President Zardari Visits CPC Memorial in Shanghai, where he was joined by First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday. The visit highlighted Pakistan’s respect for China’s historic journey and the strength of their all-weather friendship.
The memorial, located in Shanghai’s historic French Concession, is the site of the CPC’s first congress in July 1921. Thirteen leaders, including Chairman Mao Zedong, attended the founding session. During the visit, President Zardari toured the preserved shikumen-style building as well as the adjoining exhibition hall, which displays relics, photographs, and historical documents.
In the visitors’ book, President Zardari wrote that it was an honour to visit the place where the CPC was founded. He also conveyed the respect of the Pakistani people for China’s transformation into a global power. Moreover, he praised President Xi Jinping’s visionary leadership for strengthening Pak-China ties. He reaffirmed that this partnership is an “all-weather bond” and will continue to grow stronger.
The President further appreciated the preservation of the memorial, calling it a symbol of the early struggles that shaped modern China. Recognised as a national cultural heritage site, the memorial remains one of Shanghai’s most significant historical attractions.
Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Sindh Ministers Sharjeel Memon and Syed Nasir Shah, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi also accompanied the President during the visit.
