The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has launched a large-scale relief operation in Gilgit-Baltistan, evacuating 75 stranded individuals from flood-hit areas while delivering critical supplies to isolated valleys.
C-130 Aircraft Deliver Essential Aid
PAF C-130 aircraft, braving harsh weather and rugged mountainous terrain, transported 7 tons of dry rations, daily-use essentials, and life-saving medicines from Nur Khan Airbase to Gilgit, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday. The consignment will be distributed in remote villages in coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
Sustained Relief Efforts Planned
According to ISPR, PAF aircraft and ground teams will continue relief operations in the coming days, ensuring delivery of food, medicines, temporary shelters, and medical aid to flood-affected families. The operation highlights the military’s resolve to stand by the nation during natural disasters.
Government Intensifies Flood Response Nationwide
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to intensify relief and rehabilitation across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). He ordered uninterrupted electricity for at least a week in flood-hit districts and speedy disbursement of financial aid.
The Ministry of Finance has allocated an additional Rs4 billion to sustain rescue and relief operations. NDMA officials confirmed that over 25,000 people have been rescued since flooding began, with 411 medical camps established nationwide, including 308 in KP alone.
NDMA Issues Weather Warning
The NDMA has cautioned of further intense monsoon activity until September 10, warning of flash floods, landslides, and mudslides. The monsoon season, which began on June 26, has so far claimed 707 lives and injured 967 people across Pakistan.
