China has doubled the number of cross-border passenger trains operating on the China-Laos Railway between Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, and Vientiane, the capital of Laos, starting Friday, according to China Railway Kunming Group Co., Ltd.
This expansion introduces an additional pair of cross-border trains, now departing from both Kunming Railway Station and Kunming South Station, enhancing transportation links and accessibility between the two countries.
The newly introduced D86 train leaves Kunming at 10:55 am Beijing time, while the D84 departs Vientiane at 12:25 pm. Both trains stop at 10 stations, including key locations such as Pu’er, Xishuangbanna, and Mohan in China, and Boten, Muang Xay, Luang Prabang, and Vang Vieng in Laos. The full journey lasts around 10 hours, inclusive of customs clearance.
These Fuxing bullet trains operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h and are equipped with dual-standard power outlets compatible with both Chinese and Lao plugs, as well as multilingual passenger information in Chinese, Lao, and English.
Railway authorities from China and Laos plan to adjust schedules in response to passenger demand and will strengthen coordination among relevant departments to improve overall service quality.
Since the launch of the cross-border passenger service in April 2023, the China-Laos Railway has carried approximately 540,000 passengers from 115 different countries and regions.
