Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Beijing on Sunday.
Wang, who is also a senior member of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee, welcomed Lavrov’s visit to China to participate in the Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of SCO Member States.
Wang stated that China is ready to collaborate with Russia and other member countries to ensure the success of the upcoming Tianjin Summit and elevate the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to a higher stage of development.
Highlighting the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Wang emphasized the importance of organizing commemorative events with Russia to mark World War II’s victory and uphold accurate historical understanding.
Lavrov affirmed Russia’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with China across various sectors, under the strategic leadership of their respective presidents, and to continue advancing bilateral ties.
He also reiterated Russia’s strong support for China’s SCO presidency, expressing commitment to enhance coordination within the SCO and help ensure the Tianjin Summit’s success.
Both sides also discussed regional and global issues, including developments on the Korean Peninsula, the Ukraine conflict, and the Iranian nuclear situation.
