China is prepared to advance its comprehensive strategic partnership with Australia through a more dynamic and forward-looking approach, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Friday.
Wang expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Australia in preparing for the next phase of high-level exchanges, continuing the positive momentum in bilateral relations, and handling differences constructively.
He made these remarks during a meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Kuala Lumpur, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related events.
Reflecting on the past three years, Wang noted that China-Australia relations have stabilized, improved, and achieved encouraging results.
He emphasized that the progress demonstrates how a correct and constructive approach to the partnership allows bilateral ties to grow steadily and deliver practical outcomes.
Wang also acknowledged that Australia’s rational and pragmatic China policy benefits both nations and aligns with broader global trends.
In response, Penny Wong reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to fostering a positive and practical relationship with China.
She highlighted that both countries are actively preparing for high-level interactions and expressed optimism about achieving tangible results. She added that cooperation in areas such as trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges continues to progress.
Wong reiterated Australia’s firm adherence to the one-China policy and stated that her country does not support “Taiwan independence.”
She expressed Australia’s willingness to engage in open dialogue and expand cooperation with China to ensure steady and constructive bilateral development.
Wong further affirmed Australia’s support for ASEAN’s central role and its commitment to regional peace and stability.
Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues, including the South China Sea and the conflict in Ukraine.
