The Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, and Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) have reached a consensus to implement a unified strategy aimed at resolving the ongoing water crisis in Gwadar.
A joint meeting of the relevant departments was held to address the issue, attended by GPA Chairman Noor-ul-Haq Baloch, Secretary of the PHE Department Imran Gichki, GDA Director General Saifullah Khetran, and Executive Engineer of PHE Momin Baloch.
The meeting involved detailed discussions on the prevailing water shortage in Gwadar, after which all three departments agreed to move forward with a coordinated plan.
As part of the strategy, the Balochistan government will procure water from the 1.2 million gallons per day (MGD) Chinese desalination plant at Gwadar Port and deliver 700,000 to 800,000 gallons of water daily to Gwadar’s Old City.
The operational responsibility will be jointly managed by the Gwadar Port Authority and the Public Health Engineering Department to ensure efficient water delivery.
Additionally, the Public Health Department has submitted a proposal to the Chief Minister of Balochistan for the extension of a pipeline from Santsar Boring to Pishkan. Once approved and completed, the project will enable water access for residents of Pishkan, Paleri, and nearby villages.
Meanwhile, the GDA has announced plans to link the Shadi Kor water supply pipeline to the Chor pumping station at the Sowad Dam, aimed at improving water supply to other parts of Gwadar.
Officials emphasized that these measures would be implemented without delay to ensure that the residents of Gwadar receive timely access to clean water, a fundamental necessity.
