China, Germany hold Strategic Dialogue in Berlin
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul convened the eighth round of the China-Germany Strategic Dialogue on Diplomacy and Security in Berlin on Thursday.

Wang emphasized that as the world’s second and third-largest economies, China and Germany share global responsibilities and should collaborate to strengthen mutual trust, deepen cooperation, and advance their bilateral relationship. Wang also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

Amid growing global protectionism, anti-globalization trends, and unilateralism, Wang stressed the need for China and Germany to enhance strategic communication and cooperation to bring greater stability and predictability to international affairs through strong bilateral ties.

He called for genuine multilateralism, defense of the UN-centered international system, the preservation of an international order based on international law, and adherence to the UN Charter’s principles and norms of international relations.

Wang highlighted the importance of mutual respect, seeking common ground despite differences, and achieving win-win cooperation. He encouraged both nations to build trust and manage disagreements through calm and rational dialogue.

Wang also urged Germany to uphold the one-China principle and welcomed the German government’s pragmatic and positive approach toward strengthening ties with China.

He acknowledged Germany’s efforts in advancing China-EU relations and expressed hope that Berlin would continue to play a constructive role in fostering closer China-EU cooperation.

Wadephul underscored the importance of close communication between Germany and China in tackling global challenges. He noted that the two countries can address differences with mutual respect and a constructive approach and expressed Germany’s interest in further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Reaffirming the German government’s firm commitment to the one-China policy, Wadephul supported deeper engagement with China.

The dialogue also included comprehensive discussions on global issues such as the Ukraine crisis, Iran’s nuclear program, Middle East developments, and multilateral cooperation. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to support ceasefires and peaceful conflict resolution.
