Defense Minister lauds China’s role in regional stability as he held a bilateral meeting with China’s Defense Minister on the sidelines of the SCO meeting.
Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif commended China’s efforts in curbing regional tensions during his address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defense Ministers’ Meeting held in Qingdao, located in East China’s Shandong Province.
In a bilateral meeting with Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun, Asif acknowledged China’s proactive role in responding to growing regional instability and conflict in recent months.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s deep regard for its time-tested friendship with China, emphasizing the value of ongoing cooperation in defense and broader international initiatives.
Calling the interaction “very fruitful,” Asif remarked, “We are friends, we are brothers,” and said both sides discussed matters of shared concern. He underscored the SCO’s key role in coordinating efforts to counter terrorism and preserve regional stability.
Asif pointed out that the SCO holds great potential as a platform for promoting peace, safeguarding the interests of member nations, and driving economic progress to improve the lives of their populations. He emphasized the need for member states to collectively confront terrorism and work together for regional harmony.
He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with China and other SCO nations in realizing the organization’s strategic objectives. He also called for enhanced efforts in fighting terrorism and fostering peace, unity, and development in the region.
Speaking to the media, Asif highlighted the SCO’s importance in maintaining regional stability and deepening economic ties among its varied member states.
