The Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) announced on Wednesday that electricity supply from Iran to Balochistan’s Makran Division had been restored after a two-day blackout during an intense heatwave.
The power was fully restored at 1 a.m. on Tuesday night via the 132-KV Pishin-Mand and Polan-Jiwani transmission lines.
Electricity supply resumed in all three districts of Makran, including Mand, Tump, Turbat, Hoshab, Panjgur, Jiwani, Gwadar Door, Gwadar Deep Sea Port, New Gwadar International Airport, Pasni, and Ormara.
According to Qesco, the power outage began around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday due to developments in Iran, disrupting electricity to Makran Division as well as Gwadar, Kech, and Panjgur during a week when temperatures soared to 50°C.
A Qesco spokesperson stated that the power suspension caused severe hardship for residents in the scorching heat. To minimize the impact, Qesco connected the affected grid stations to Pakistan’s national grid as a temporary measure during the outage.
