Pakistan, China to extend CPEC to Afghanistan as an informal meeting between the foreign ministers of three countries was held in Beijing.

China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan have once again emphasized their commitment to extending the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into Afghanistan as part of the larger Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi engaged in a comprehensive and constructive dialogue aimed at strengthening cooperation through enhanced communication and mutual trust.

During their trilateral meeting in Beijing, the three ministers underscored the crucial role of this platform in promoting regional peace, development, and their shared vision for improved regional connectivity, according to a Foreign Office press release.

They welcomed recent improvements in Afghanistan’s security situation and recognized that strong economic ties and connectivity are key foundations for regional growth and prosperity.

The ministers also stressed the importance of ongoing diplomatic engagement and practical cooperation within the trilateral framework.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to fostering close and cooperative relations with Afghanistan, particularly in areas such as trade, transit, health, and connectivity.

China expressed its support for both Pakistan and Afghanistan in upholding their sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national dignity.

All parties acknowledged that eliminating terrorism and external threats is essential to achieving economic progress and connectivity goals, and agreed to strengthen security cooperation to foster peace and stability.

They reaffirmed their united opposition to terrorism in all its forms.

Finally, it was agreed that the 6th Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Meeting will be held in Kabul at a mutually convenient date soon.
