Xi urges SCO unity in fight against poverty by strengthening policy coordination and advancing cooperation in this aspect.
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message on Tuesday to the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Forum on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development, which commenced in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province.
President Xi emphasized that eliminating poverty is a global challenge and a shared objective for all nations.
He highlighted that, through persistent efforts, China has successfully eradicated poverty, achieved the UN 2030 Sustainable Development poverty goal a decade early, pioneered a poverty reduction model with Chinese characteristics, and made a significant contribution to global poverty alleviation.
Noting that underdevelopment is the primary root of poverty, Xi remarked that the SCO has made notable progress in recent years by advancing cooperation in poverty reduction and sustainable growth.
As the current chair of the SCO, China is committed to strengthening policy coordination, sharing its poverty alleviation experiences, and expanding practical cooperation to assist more countries in finding development paths suited to their own conditions, Xi stated. He called for joint efforts to build a world without poverty and with shared prosperity.
The forum, held in Xi’an, centered around the theme “Sustained Poverty Reduction and Cooperative Development,” focusing on promoting poverty alleviation and sustainable growth among SCO member countries. It was jointly organized by the SCO Committee on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation and the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province.
