President Xi calls for empowerment for persons with disabilities and for them to pursue their dreams.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged people with disabilities to find inspiration in exemplary individuals, persevere through difficulties, and pursue their aspirations with determination.
Xi, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, while speaking in a message to a special gathering held Friday to honor disabled role models and contributors to disability support efforts, emphasized the significance of their perseverance.
The event coincided with China’s 35th National Day for Assisting Persons with Disabilities, observed this year on May 18.
Xi highlighted that persons with disabilities play an essential role in the country’s modernization, while also being a group that requires special attention and assistance due to their vulnerabilities.
He called for continued efforts to strengthen the social support system, improve care services, and safeguard equal rights for individuals with disabilities.
Xi urged all levels of Party committees and government to treat disability-related affairs as a priority and to enhance public services for the disabled community.
He also encouraged disability-related organizations and service workers to boost their capabilities and deliver higher-quality support.
President Xi inspired persons with disabilities to take strength from exemplary figures, overcome obstacles, and contribute meaningfully to national development and rejuvenation.
Premier Li Qiang, a member of the CPC Central Committee’s Political Bureau Standing Committee, met with the honored representatives and posed for a group photo.
The gathering recognized 200 individuals with disabilities as role models, alongside 200 outstanding organizations and 60 individuals who have made significant contributions to supporting disability services.
