Chinese EV giant BYD wins big at 2025 New York Auto Show establishing China’s growing excellence in electric cars.
Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD Auto Co., Ltd. received recognition at the ongoing 2025 New York International Auto Show.
The company’s Seagull / Dolphin Mini model was awarded the title of 2025 World Urban Car as part of the World Car Awards, a prestigious international program run by automotive journalists from around the globe.
Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD Auto, said the award highlights the company’s dedication to delivering eco-friendly technology and top-tier service globally. She emphasized BYD’s mission to advance green transportation and help reduce global temperatures by 1°C.
The Seagull / Dolphin Mini was selected from a pool of 12 competing vehicles from across the world.
Established in January 2004, the World Car Awards celebrate excellence in six categories: World Car Design, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, World Urban Car, World Electric Vehicle, and World Car of the Year.
Earlier this year, Stella Li was honored as the 2025 World Car Person of the Year—making her the first woman to receive the title and marking the first time a Chinese brand earned a win in the award’s history.
The 2025 New York International Auto Show began at the Javits Center in New York City on Wednesday, with public attendance open from April 18 to 27.
