Chinese President Xi Jinping conveyed a message to Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith on Wednesday, expressing deep condolences for the death of Khamtay Siphandone, the former president of Laos and former chairman of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP).
Xi, who also serves as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), offered heartfelt sympathy to the LPRP, the Lao government, and its people on the loss of Khamtay Siphandone. He also extended condolences to his family on behalf of the CPC, the Chinese government, and the people of China, as well as in his own name.
In his message to Thongloun, who is also the General Secretary of the LPRP Central Committee, Xi praised Khamtay as a dedicated communist, a prominent leader from the older generation of Laos’ party and state, and a close comrade and friend of both the CPC and the Chinese people.
Xi highlighted that Khamtay had devoted his life to the reform and socialist development of Laos, making significant contributions to the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two parties and countries. He added that the Chinese people will always remember Khamtay fondly.
Referring to the close relationship between China and Laos, Xi remarked that both countries are not only good neighbors but also good friends, comrades, and partners, bound by shared socialist values and geographical ties.
Xi affirmed that China values the traditional friendship between the two countries and stands ready to continue working with Laos to build a community with a shared future and further the progress of their respective socialist endeavors.
He also expressed confidence that, under the leadership of the LPRP Central Committee headed by General Secretary Thongloun, Laos would continue achieving significant progress in strengthening both the party and the nation.
