Chinese Premier meets U.S. Senator Steve Daines and calls for strengthened China-U.S. relations.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with U.S. Senator Steve Daines and a group of American business representatives on Sunday during their visit to the China Development Forum 2025.
Li emphasized that China-U.S. relations have reached a crucial turning point, highlighting that history has shown cooperation benefits both nations, while confrontation leads to losses. He stressed the importance of dialogue over conflict and urged both sides to pursue mutually beneficial cooperation rather than a zero-sum approach.
Expressing hope for improved bilateral ties, Li called for open and honest communication between China and the U.S. He urged both nations to foster trust, dispel misunderstandings, and adhere to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation. Strengthening practical collaboration would contribute to the stable and sustainable development of their relationship, he added.
Li underscored that economic and trade ties form the backbone of China-U.S. relations. Decades of cooperation have led to significant achievements, a legacy that both countries should preserve. He noted that in times of strained relations, it becomes even more critical to protect and expand economic engagement.
The premier warned that trade wars yield no winners, and imposing tariffs does not lead to prosperity. Instead, he advocated for resolving trade imbalances by expanding areas of cooperation to create mutual growth opportunities.
Reaffirming China’s openness to global business, Li assured that China welcomes American companies and will address their concerns fairly. He pledged equal treatment for domestic and foreign enterprises while ensuring a favorable business environment.
American attendees acknowledged the profound changes in China over recent decades. They expressed commitment to continued investment, supporting China’s development, and fostering stronger economic ties. They reiterated their willingness to enhance dialogue and cooperation to achieve mutual benefits and advance stable bilateral relations.
