China extends condolences over passing of Namibia’s Former President as per foreign ministry spokesperson.
China has extended its deep condolences over the passing of Namibia’s former President Sam Nujoma, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Monday.
“China sincerely sympathizes with the Namibian government, its people, and the family of former President Nujoma,” Guo stated during a daily press briefing.
Describing Nujoma as a revolutionary leader and freedom fighter, Guo highlighted his role in leading the Namibian people toward national independence and liberation. He noted that Nujoma was widely admired and respected for his contributions to peace and global development.
Guo also emphasized that Nujoma played a key role in fostering China-Namibia relations and strengthening ties between China and Africa. His efforts significantly contributed to deepening the friendship between the two nations.
“In this moment of sorrow, the Chinese people stand in solidarity with the Namibian people, committed to furthering the bond and cooperation between China and Namibia, as well as China and Africa,” Guo added.
Sam Nujoma passed away at the age of 95 on Saturday due to health complications. He served as Namibia’s first president from 1990 to 2005 and was a founding member of the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO), the ruling party since Namibia’s independence.
