President Xi vows to strengthen cooperation with IOC as he held a meeting with President Thomas Bach in Harbin.
Chinese President Xi Jinping stated on Friday that China is prepared to collaborate with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to further advance the Olympic Movement.
Xi made these remarks during a meeting with IOC President Thomas Bach in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province. Bach was in the city to attend the opening ceremony of the 9th Asian Winter Games.
Highlighting the strong cooperation between China and the IOC, Xi noted that China’s successful hosting of multiple major sporting events in recent years is a testament to their close partnership.
He emphasized that China is actively developing its sports sector and striving to become a global sports powerhouse while promoting national health. This commitment, he added, will contribute to the growth of international sports.
Bach commended China for championing unity, cooperation, equality, and respect in global sports. He also praised China’s stance on multilateralism, its opposition to the politicization of sports, and its support for broader participation of developing countries in international competitions.
Expressing confidence in China’s future, Bach stated that the country will continue to make significant achievements and contribute to global peace, development, and progress.
Senior Chinese officials, including Cai Qi, attended the meeting.
