Five security men martyred, 4 militants neutralized in efforts to combat terrorism.
Five security personnel, including an officer, sustained injuries in a landmine explosion during a clearance operation in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, on Monday. The blast occurred in the Muhammad Killay area, leaving a captain among the wounded. All injured personnel were transported to a hospital, where they are reportedly in stable condition.
Following the explosion, security forces launched an operation, eliminating three suspected militants. In separate engagements, four alleged militants, including a commander, were neutralized. Meanwhile, the military’s media wing has not released any official statement regarding the incidents.
In Lakki Marwat, police conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Mir Alam Manjiwala area along the Kurram River, acting on reports of militant presence. A special police unit, dispatched by DPO Muhammad Jawad Ishaq, engaged in a fierce half-hour gun battle with militants. Amid heightened security due to an ongoing polio vaccination campaign, authorities managed to eliminate a suspected militant commander, identified as Rehanullah alias Muntazir Aashna, from Marmandi Azeem.
Police recovered an AK-47 rifle, magazines, and hand grenades from the slain militant. He was reportedly linked to attacks on law enforcement, extortion, kidnapping, and the October 25, 2024, mosque assault in which a 19-year-old cadet, Arifullah, was martyred. Prior to the police operation, local villagers engaged in a confrontation with terrorists, leaving two civilians—55-year-old Zarwali Khan and his 30-year-old son, Taimur Khan—injured. The assailants had intended to abduct Taimur, an Air Force employee, but villagers thwarted the attempt before police intervention.
Separately, a police van traveling to Lakki city was targeted by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Qeemat Manjiwala after a successful anti-militancy operation. The explosion damaged the vehicle and injured a policeman, while another 15kg IED was later defused by the bomb disposal squad.
