Pakistan Navy to enhance coastal surveillance for CPEC as the naval chief underscored the importance of the project for regional prosperity.
In a written interview, Naveed Ashraf, the Chief of Staff of the Pakistani Navy, emphasized the longstanding and robust relationship between the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy and the Pakistan Navy. He noted that both forces are dedicated to strengthening this curcial partnership, particularly for ensuring regional peace and maritime security.
The admiral also underscored the critical importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for the region’s economic growth and development. He stated that Pakistan will consistently monitor the coastal areas along the corridor, especially around Gwadar Port, to curb illegal activities.
Ashraf made these statements ahead of Exercise AMAN-2025, a multinational naval drill scheduled in Karachi from February 7 to 11.
He also outlined the goal of the naval exercise to promote regional cooperation, enhance interoperability among naval forces, exchange knowledge, and demonstrate a united stand against maritime terrorism and organized crime.
Recognizing the significance of the Indian Ocean for both regional and global trade, Ashraf expressed that the Pakistan Navy and the PLA Navy will continue to strengthen their cooperation to address threats to global commerce in this vital maritime region.
Additionally, Ashraf mentioned that Pakistan is eager to develop long-term collaborations with China in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, robotics, cyber warfare, and space exploration.
