China discovers major rare earth deposit in Yunnan, southwest China, as per the China Geological Survey (CGS)
The China Geological Survey (CGS) announced the discovery of a substantial rare earth deposit in Yunnan Province, southwest China, with estimated resources of 1.15 million tonnes.
The deposit includes over 470,000 tonnes of critical rare earth elements such as praseodymium, neodymium, dysprosium, and terbium, according to the CGS, which operates under the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Identified as a super-large ion-adsorption type rare earth deposit, this marks a major breakthrough in China since the first such discovery in Jiangxi Province in 1969, the CGS added.
Containing essential metals for high-tech industry development, the new find strengthens China’s rare earth resource advantage and enhances the rare earth industrial supply chain, according to the CGS.
