The launch of Pakistan’s first off-road 4×4 double-cabin pickup truck has generated excitement in the automotive industry. On January 8, 2025, Gandhara Automobile, a Pakistani manufacturer, introduced the JAC T9 Hunter, marking a significant milestone for locally assembled Chinese vehicles.
Automotive analysts view the introduction of this locally assembled Chinese truck as a transformative moment for Chinese automakers in Pakistan. With competitive pricing and a robust feature set, the JAC T9 Hunter is poised to become a strong contender in the mid-sized pickup market.
At the official launch event in Karachi, car enthusiasts expressed optimism about the JAC T9’s potential to compete with the Toyota Revo, a well-established and popular truck in the Pakistani market.
The growing success of other Chinese automotive brands like MG, Changan, and Haval has increased trust in the quality and reliability of Chinese vehicles. Consequently, more Pakistani consumers are now considering Chinese-made vehicles as viable options.
China and Pakistan are collaborating to strengthen their automotive industries through joint efforts in research, development, manufacturing, and market expansion. Recent initiatives have focused on advancing Pakistan’s automotive manufacturing capabilities, with particular emphasis on the electric vehicle (EV) sector.
In a related development, Chinese EV giant BYD announced plans in August 2024 to establish a production plant in Pakistan. Partnering with Mega Motors, BYD will also introduce three EV models in the Pakistani market, further cementing China-Pakistan automotive ties and fostering growth in Pakistan’s EV industry.
