CM Punjab Maryam reaches China for 8-day official visit to deepen economic and institutional cooperation, with a packed schedule of meetings and events.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the first female Chief Minister of Punjab, landed in Beijing on Sunday evening to begin her eight-day visit to China. She received a warm welcome at the airport, where a bouquet was presented to her. Six senior officials from the Communist Party of China (CPC) greeted her, alongside Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, and his wife.
A high-ranking delegation from the CPC met with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz later. Lin Tao, the head of the Chinese delegation, extended a formal welcome to her and her team. Expressing her gratitude, Maryam Nawaz highlighted the growing strength of Pak-China relations and emphasized Punjab’s aspirations to achieve economic progress through collaboration with China.
Deputy Director General of the CPC Lin Tao, along with other officials including Mrs. Li Zhenyao and Mr. Chen Zhenbo, warmly received the chief minister. Several Pakistani embassy officials and senior members of Maryam Nawaz’s delegation, such as Senator Pervez Rashid and provincial ministers Marriyum Aurangzeb and Azma Zahid Bokhari, accompanied her on the trip.
The official agenda for Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s visit began on Monday. She planned to tour hospitals, schools, and other institutions in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. Scheduled engagements included meetings with Chinese ministers, senior officials, and experts, as well as attendance at conferences and events. The visit was arranged at the invitation of the CPC.
Before departing for China, Maryam Nawaz paid tribute to six martyred security personnel in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. She offered condolences to their families, expressing hope that their sacrifices would contribute to the fight against terrorism and unite the nation in this mission.
Separately, the chief minister expressed sorrow over the passing of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s sister, extending her heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
