Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the need to strengthen and modernize the military’s information support force to achieve transformative progress in its network information system.
As the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), Xi made these remarks during an inspection of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) information support force on Wednesday.
This strategic branch, established during recent military restructuring, was officially inaugurated in April when Xi awarded it the military flag and delivered a speech. During the inspection, Xi congratulated the force on holding its first Party Congress and extended greetings to its members.
After reviewing the force’s progress, Xi highlighted the rapid pace of technological and military advancements, stressing the importance of a robust network information system in modern warfare. He urged the force to enhance its combat readiness by strengthening the system and focusing on technological improvements.
Xi outlined key priorities, including enhancing information services, developing public network platforms, and ensuring cybersecurity. He also called for ongoing reforms, better coordination among departments, and robust legal frameworks to increase the efficiency of the military’s network systems.
Recognizing the force’s early stage of development, Xi stressed the importance of reinforcing its internal structure, upholding Party leadership, and maintaining Party discipline. He encouraged the Party committee to focus on building a skilled and professional workforce.
Xi concluded by urging the CMC to enhance coordination and for government departments to collaborate in building the information support force, thereby advancing the modernization of the PLA’s network information system.
