China’s 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities concludes in Sanya where they signified ethnic unity and national progress.
The 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities concluded on Saturday evening in Sanya, Hainan Province, with organizers officially transferring the event to the next host, Hunan Province.
At the closing ceremony held at the Sanya Sports Center, flags representing the 35 participating delegations were waved.
Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin declared the Games officially closed, after which the stadium’s flame was extinguished.
Gao Zhidan, director of China’s General Administration of Sport, praised the athletes, staff, volunteers, and media for their contributions, noting that the competition showcased both the athletes’ physical abilities and a deep emotional and spiritual connection.
Gao also highlighted the Games as a celebration of ethnic unity and national progress, as well as the promotion of fitness. He invited everyone to reunite in Hunan for the next edition in 2027.
Moreover, over the course of the nine-day event, 6,960 athletes participated in 18 sports and three demonstration events.
The official Games flag was handed to Li Jianzhong, vice governor of Hunan Province, who then introduced an eight-minute performance from the next host province.
The 13th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities will be held in Hunan Province in 2027.
