Global Photography meets local culture in China with the festival showcasing works from various artists.
The 2024 Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival began on Friday in Xiamen, a coastal city in Fujian Province, eastern China.
This year’s festival features 25 exhibitions showcasing 2,000 works by artists from countries including France, Spain, Germany, India, Japan, Canada, the United States, and China.
Key attractions include five exhibitions selected from the Rencontres d’Arles, with themes such as artificial intelligence, architectural landscapes, and environmental protection.
Throughout the festival, a variety of activities will take place, including university lecture tours, portfolio reviews, artist talks, workshops, performances, and study trips, providing diverse engagement opportunities for attendees.
Additionally, the festival will connect with local art and culture through the “Parallel Exhibition” and “Isles Project,” exploring the links between photography and Xiamen’s cultural heritage and nearby regions.
First launched in 2015, the Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival has attracted over 500,000 visitors in its nine-year history. This year’s event will continue until January 12, 2025.
