China-Europe freight train hits 100,000 milestone as the project stands as a key landmark of the BRI.
The China-Europe freight train service, a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, reached a significant milestone on Friday with the 100,000th train now in operation, as reported by China State Railway Group, which oversees the service.
At 10:20 am, the X8083 train embarked on its journey from Chongqing to Duisburg, Germany, departing from Tuanjiecun Station in Chongqing, marking this historic occasion.
This milestone signifies that the China-Europe freight train service has now transported over 11 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of goods, valued at more than $420 billion.
Since its inception in 2011, the service has played a pivotal role in transforming global trade by enhancing connectivity between China and Europe. It has consistently demonstrated safe, stable, and efficient operations, solidifying its role as a crucial component of international logistics.
The achievement highlights the rapid expansion of the rail corridor linking China and Europe, enabling seamless and reliable transport of goods across continents.
In the past seven years, the service has experienced nearly tenfold growth, with annual train trips increasing from 1,702 in 2016 to over 17,000 in 2023.
