Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted the strategic significance of Chancay Port, emphasizing that it will strengthen Peru’s role as a key link between land and sea, as well as between Asia and Latin America, during his remarks at the port’s opening ceremony.
Speaking via video link with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, Xi described the Chancay Port as more than just a deep-water harbor. He noted that it would be the first smart and green port in South America, and once completed, it would generate substantial revenue for Peru and create numerous employment opportunities.
Xi further stated that China is prepared to collaborate with Peru in establishing a new land-sea corridor that connects China and Latin America, with Chancay Port serving as its focal point. This corridor, which will link the Inca Trail to the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, is intended to foster mutual prosperity and benefit for Peru and other nations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
