Xi urges promoting building of community with shared future with Malaysia describing both nations as friends, close neighbors and partners.
Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Beijing on Thursday, urging both countries to seize the opportunity of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations to strengthen and enhance the China-Malaysia community with a shared future.
Xi emphasized the strong relationship between China and Malaysia, describing them as close neighbors, friends, and partners who have engaged in high-quality cooperation across various sectors since Anwar’s first official visit to China last year. This collaboration has yielded tangible benefits for both nations’ citizens. Xi highlighted that both countries are at key stages of their national development and called for a collaborative approach to achieve shared development goals and regional stability.
Xi proposed deepening their strategic partnership through continued high-level exchanges, political mutual trust, and reciprocal support on key issues. He emphasized aligning development strategies, promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, advancing key projects like “Two Countries, Twin Parks,” and fostering new areas of cooperation, including digital technology, AI, and renewable energy. He also encouraged Malaysia to maximize opportunities provided by platforms like the China International Import Expo to introduce more Malaysian products to China and suggested enhanced collaboration in education, culture, tourism, and youth engagement to strengthen people-to-people connections.
On the international front, Xi urged both countries to deepen coordination on regional and global issues, resist protectionism, promote inclusive globalization, and work towards a fair global governance system. China pledged support for Malaysia’s 2024 ASEAN presidency and affirmed its commitment to maintaining regional cooperation centered around development.
In response, Anwar praised Xi’s initiatives, recognizing their importance to global progress and the interests of developing countries. He reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with China in areas like IT, digital economy, and energy, while maintaining strategic independence and working with China to promote regional peace and prosperity.
